"Screw the Customer" is an interesting article by David S. Isenberg,
the author of "The Rise of the Stupid Network: Why the Intelligent
Network was a Good Idea Once but isn't Anymore."
Screw the Customer
Innovation is ultimately more important than high profit margins.
When the interests of network users diverge from the interests of
telcos and cablecos, consultant Tom Nolle says, "Screw the customer."
Nolle believes that today's telcos must remain profitable so network
services we depend on will be stable, even at the expense of values
like low prices, high capacity, openness and innovation. Venture
capitalist Roderick Randall agrees; he has been saying, "The Stupid
Network is a stupid idea," for years, despite the fact that every
winner app of the last decade, stuff we can't live without anymore,
came to market on the Stupid Network.
Indeed, the Stupid Network is where the interests of users and telcos part ways.
